Beck performed a new song “Wake Up,” Tuesday night at a show in Barstow, Calif. The performance was part of multimedia artist Doug Aitken’s “Station to Station” project.
According to the website, Station to Station is a vast multimedia project that includes nine stops over a three week time period. It will connect leading figures and underground creators from the worlds of art, music, food, literature and film for a series of cultural interventions and site-specific happenings. The train, designed as a moving, kinetic light sculpture, will broadcast unique content and experiences to a global audience.” The project started in New York on Sep. 6 and is currently in California on its last three stops. Other contributing musical acts include Ariel Pink and Giorgio Moroder.
Earlier this year, Beck revealed that he is working on two follow-up albums to his 2008 record Modern Guilt. The first will be an acoustic album, set to be released this fall, and a second album to be released at a later date.
Beck says he wrote “Wake Up” specifically for the Station to Station, and didn’t specify whether or not it would appear on his upcoming albums. In this fan-recorded video, Beck is backed by a large band and a choir as he performs the wildly cheerful anthem “Wake Up.”
