Robert Ellis Announces New Album The Lights From The Chemical Plant

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Robert Ellis has announced his new album The Lights From The Chemical Plant will be released Feb. 11, 2014 via New West Records. The album is the follow-up to his 2011 release Photographs.

For his new record, Ellis worked with acclaimed producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Modest Mouse). The album was recorded at the Casino studio in Nashville.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Ellis talked about moving away from his country and folk roots on the record, and into a more pop realm “I want this record to be more about the Paul Simons and the Randy Newmans and the other half of my upbringing, which is very much rooted in pop,” Ellis said. ”[The new record is] all pop music. Depending on what your frame of reference is, you might hear certain references, but I think these songs are pretty concise pop songs.”

For The Lights From The Chemical Plant, Ellis recruited Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith and Deer Tick’s Rob Crowell. Ellis, who in the past has toured with bands such as the Alabama Shakes and the Old 97’s, will support Deer Tick in their upcoming North American tour.
