MGMT has made its self-titled third album available to stream via Rdio, which is set for a Sept. 17 physical release via Columbia Records.
The album has already received some strange press attention after singer Andrew VanWyngarden discussed it in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
“I don’t even know if it’s music we would want to listen to,” VanWyngarden said about the album, which apparently was inspired by the work of Aphex Twin. “It’s just what’s coming out of us. We didn’t make a single compromise.”
He also added that the album’s recording sessions were punctuated with several “total mental breakdowns,” one of which compelled him to adopt a kitten from his local grocery store. It happens.
