Former Saturday Night Live cast member Will Forte has been a busy man this year, first with his foray into indie drama alongside Bob Odenkirk in Nebraska and now with a production commitment to produce a comedy series pilot with 20th Century Fox TV. The planned single-cam comedy The Last Man On Earth will follow “two strangers who must overcome their differences and work together to ensure the survival of the human race,” says Variety. Forte will work on the show’s production with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are producing a Lego-inspired feature film and a sequel to 21 Jump Street at the moment.
Forte left SNL in 2010 to pursue other film projects, though he did star alongside fellow cast member Kristin Wiig in 2010’s MacGruber, the TV show’s most recent sketch to be given its own feature film. No official date has been given for The Last Man On Earth’s casting, principle filming or whether Forte will be doing any acting in the proposed comedy, but we can speculate that a pilot will likely surface some time in advance of May’s annual network upfronts.
