John Ridley is used to tackling controversial subjects with his television projects, and the latest series the writer-producer plans to develop will address the subject matter he writes best.
Ridley, who wrote the screenplay for 12 Years a Slave, is in the process of developing a racially-focused drama called American Crime with ABC, according to Deadline. The show takes place in California’s Central Valley and will center on the lives of those involved in a racially-charged murder and its subsequent trial.
Ridley will write the series and will serve alongside Michael McDonald of ABC Studios as executive producer. Ridley also made news recently when it was announced that he would be rewriting Ben-Hur, the epic historical drama in which Charlton Heston starred in 1959.
