Urban Outfitters’ popular Urban Renewal line is known for taking the old, tailoring it towards current fashion tastes and marking up the price to boot. But that higher price has a greater purpose for the new line with nonprofit foundation Anchal.

Anachal’s mission is to “provide new economic realities for sex workers in India …to create the infrastructure for creative, income-generating initiatives to run sustainably with local leadership,” according to their website. Founded in 2009 by a group of students from the Rhode Island School of Design, Anchal recruits women from poor and marginalized segments of society who have had to turn to the sex-trade in order to help support their families. Through the program these women started new careers in the textile business by creating scarves, quilts and pillows from recycled saris and other materials. Through the process, they were also provided with educational opportunities that would not otherwise be available.

With the Anchal x Urban Renewel collection, you can purchase trendy jackets, tops, skirts, dresses and shorts integrating the quilted designs signature to the Anchal style. There is also a selection of the line’s quilts and pillow covers available. A portion of the profits made from each unique piece will be donated to support Anchal’s efforts. So you can feel good when spending your hard-earned cash on a beautiful Sherpa-lined moto jacket or a colorful, fitted zipper dress. An added bonus? Each piece is completely one-of-a-kind and will be handpicked from a limited stock.
