The Broken Circle Breakdown, one of the most popular films from this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, is set to make its North American debut in early November. The Belgian film won two awards at this year’s festival for “Best Screenplay for a Narrative Feature Film” and “Best Actress in a Narrative Feature Film.” Directed by Felix van Groeningen, the plot follows the dramatic love story of tattoo shop owner Elise (Veerle Baetens) and bluegrass musician Didier (Johan Heldenbergh), after the two bond over their shared love of American music.
In addition to performing well at the Tribeca Film Festival, the film’s soundtrack, scored by composer Bjorn Eriksson, is currently number one on the charts in both Belgium and France. The album has also become the best-selling soundtrack of all time in Belgium.
The Broken Circle Breakdown Bluegrass Band, who perform the original music from the film, is currently on a sold-out European tour though 2014. Actors Veerle Baetens and Johan Heldenbergh also perform their own original songs with the band.
The Broken Circle Breakdown is out in select theaters November 1. Watch the trailer here.
