Following the April release of their rarities and oddities compilation RKives, Rilo Kiley has put a music video to their track “Emotional.” The music video uses grainy black-and-white video clips featuring blindfolded guys, creepy clowns and imagery of Coney Island among other eerie images. Video director Austin Nagler said that standup comic Bill Hicks provided inspiration.
“The video makes me think of the way Bill Hicks would often end his act by saying ‘The world is like a ride at an amusement park,’” the director told Rolling Stone. “When I originally cut the video, I put footage of Hicks performing that quote with half of it before the vid and the other half after.”
The band’s RKives compilation features unreleased songs, b-sides and other random tidbits from the indie pop quartet. Drummer Jason Boesel revealed in 2010 that Rilo Kiley had taken a bit of a hiatus, and subsequent comments and interviews in the years since have ostensibly confirmed that the band had broken up.
