Community star Joel McHale will co-host the upcoming Spike TV Video Game Awards, which as of this year will be called VGX and streamed online rather than televised. Spike TV’s Geoff Keighley co-hosts the show, which will air on December 7 at 6 pm ET.
The live-streaming capabilities of both the new and prior generations of videogame consoles allow Spike enthusiasts to enjoy this year’s awards show in the exact same way they did in prior years: from a couch, on a television. The show will also stream elsewhere online, via Hulu, Twitch, and the usual suspects like MTV.com and Spike.com.
Although this year’s awards show won’t be “officially” televised, the array of video-streaming options will make tuning in as easy as it was before, if not more so. One can only hope that Joel McHale’s dry wit will finally make this often-forgettable event worth watching.
