After years of memorable supporting roles in movies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Anchorman, comedy veteran David Koechner might finally have the spotlight to himself. Deadline reports that the southern-fried comic will be creating, producing and starring in a pilot for a sketch comedy ordered by NBC.
Koechner is no stranger to the format, having performed with famed improv troupe Second City before joining Saturday Night Live for one season in 1995. However, audiences are more likely know the actor for his square-jawed loudmouths in projects like Talladega Nights and The Office.
This could end up being the network’s third sketch show, as NBC announced just last month it would be airing the pilot for a variety series starring another SNL alum, the Oprah-rific impressionist Maya Rudolph.
