Instagram Reveals Most Instagrammed/Hashtagged Items of 2013

The numbers are in—Instagram has released details on the most Instagrammed and hashtagged items of 2013.

Coming in first with the most likes this year, amassing a total of 12,027,938 followers overall, is pop-star/role model Justin Bieber.

According to Instagram, “around 55 million photos” are uploaded EVERY DAY (about half of those being pictures of sunsets and people’s feet, another quarter being intriguing, necessary photos of elaborate meals, probably), and this year’s top hashtag was actually kind of sweet—#love. On a less inspiring note, the other top hashtags for 2013 were #tbt, #friends, #fashion, #food, and #selfie.

Better than #YOLO, I guess.

A rather surprising statistic, this year’s top geotagged location on Instagram was the Siam Paragon Shopping Mall in Bangkok, Thailand. Other top locations included New York’s Times Square, Central Park and Highline, Disneyland California/Florida, the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas, and the Staples Center and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Finally, with the once-in-a-millenium Thanksgivukkah taking place this year, the joint Thanksgiving and Hanukkah celebration became the most Instagrammed day of the year. Instagram reported that the service was flooded with photos of “turkeys, latkes and even the occasional ‘menurky.’” If only people had Instagram in 1888, the last time Thanksgivukkah took place.
