ESPN Cancels Ron Burgundy's SportsCenter Appearance

ESPN’s Thursday night broadcast of SportsCenter is expected to be a little less classy now that Will Ferrell’s scheduled appearance as Ron Burgundy has been canceled.

Ferrell was supposed to appear on the program with Champ Kind (David Koechner) for an evening segment of SportsCenter. ESPN has now canceled the appearance after it was announced yesterday that the Florida State Attorney’s office will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Eastern time to discuss the sexual assault allegations against Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy frontrunner Jameis Winston.

“Ron Burgundy’s scheduled Thurs. appearance on @SportsCenter has been cancelled in light of the potential implications of any news from the State Attorney’s press conference in Fla.,” said ESPN’s director of communications David Scott via Twitter. “As of this time, there is no reschedule date for Ron Burgundy.”

Ferrell recently made an appearance as Ron Burgundy last week on a local North Dakota station, sitting in for an evening broadcast. He also interviewed Peyton Manning for the interview section of ESPN The Magazine earlier this week. Check out the video below to see what might have been the best episode in SportsCenter history.
