According to Gothamist, Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander were spotted going into Tom’s Restaurant in New York’s Upper West Side earlier today. Who cares, you ask? The blue and red neon sign atop Tom’s is the same “Restaurant” sign that was used for the fictional Monk’s coffee shop Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer frequented on Seinfeld. The interior of Monk’s that you’re familiar with was actual a set in Los Angeles, but the iconic sign has been buzzing away in Manhattan.
The restaurant was reportedly closed for a few hours this afternoon while the pair were inside. The blinds were shut and cameras were present, as well, so this is clearly more than a social meeting between the former co-stars. (Although how crazy would it be if they just casually met up for coffee at “Monk’s” like this?) In all likelihood, Seinfeld and Alexander are filming an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, as evinced by a photo of a gear tub Gothamist snapped. That’d be just fine with us, as the Comedians Season 1 episode with Michael Richards (Kramer) was one of the best of the series.
Here’s the photo of Seinfeld and Alexander that started it all, taken by Twitter user @ClubAliP:
