DC is slowly working to claim some of the superhero market that Marvel has dominated since the original Iron Man. The forthcoming Batman vs. Superman is seen by many as a potential jumping-off point for a future Justice League franchise. News of Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress best known her work in the Fast & Furious franchise, being cast as Wonder Woman seemed to legitimize theories that DC is planning something much, much larger.
Today, Variety reports that Gadot is not only slated to appear in the Man of Steel sequel, but she actually signed a three-picture deal with Warner Bros. that includes a Justice League film and a standalone Wonder Woman project.
This is big news for Wonder Woman fans, whose last hope of a live-action adaptation died when NBC chose not to pick up a pilot centered on the Amazon princess starring Adrianne Palicki in the title role.
Those excited to see Gadot as Diana Prince will have to wait longer than expected, though. Batman vs. Superman was originally planned for a summer 2015 release, but has since been pushed to 2016.
