It appears The Hold Steady are doing anything but in 2014, as Billboard reports that the band has become the first signing of Washington Square, a new imprint from New York-based indie heavyweight Razor & Tie.
In addition to their new label, the Brooklyn rockers are also kicking off their 10-year anniversary with a new album as well as a subsequent supporting tour (dates below). The Hold Steady’s forthcoming sixth studio album, Teeth Dreams, will be released on Washington Square March 25 (The band’s last album, 2010’s Heaven Is Whenever, was released by Vagrant Records).
“We’re really proud of our new record,” said guitarist Tad Kubler in a statement, “this is an exciting time for us. Making the new record has been a journey for the band, and the results exceeded even our own expectations. Can’t wait for people to hear it.”
While The Hold Steady may be Washington Square’s first signing, they will not be the new imprint’s first release. U.K. rockers Deaf Havana will instead christen the imprint on January 21 with their first official US album Old Souls.
