Yesterday at the Television Critics Association press tour, Jimmy Fallonannounced that his first guest and musical guest as host of the Tonight Show will be Will Smith and U2, respectively (although we wouldn’t mind seeing Smith rap a few bars, either). It’s hard to do much better than one of the most successful movie stars of all-time and one of the most successful bands of all-time for your first night on the job. Even his SNL producer would be jealous.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Smith or Bono and Co., but U2 recently grabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, and Smith is set to star alongside The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margo Robbie in Focus a Warner Bros. comedy/drama in which Smith plays a con artist who befriends and subsequently becomes romantically involved with Robbie.
The first episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon will air Feb. 17 on NBC.
