Taking a break from playing with her band Body/Head, Sonic Youth bassist is releasing a collection of essays this month called Is This My Body?: Selected Texts before her highly anticipated memoir, Girl in a Band.
The essays were written for art and culture magazines in the 1980’s-1990’s and focus on music, art, gender roles and architecture. Gordon analyzes important issues and figures throughout the course of the text, with a special piece between her and German artist Jutta Koether. A note from the publisher states: “Ranging from neo-Conceptual artworks to broader forms of cultural criticism, these rare texts are brought together in this volume for the first time, placing Gordon’s writing within the context of the artist-critics of her generation, including Mike Kelley, John Miller, and Dan Graham.” Check out more about the book from the publisher here.
