Marvel Studios has released the first promotional still for its anticipated summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. The image was also accompanied by Marvel’s official synopsis, which essentially sets up Guardians as The Avengers in space where Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is forced to assemble a group of raggedy alien misfits in order to protect himself and the cosmos. The entire synopsis can be read here.
While not much can be gleaned from the still, the expression on Pratt’s face is worth a thousand words. One can hear Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation defeatedly saying, “Oh, I’m fine. It’s just that life is pointless and nothing matters and I’m always tired. Also, I can’t sleep, I’m overeating and none of my old hobbies interest me.”
Despite lacking the familiarity that Captain America and Spider-Man certainly possess, Guardians boasts a star-studded cast in addition to Pratt, including Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper as the voices of Groot (a sentient tree) and Rocket (a gun-slinging raccoon) respectfully, Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.
Guardians hits theaters August 1, 2014
