Vermont-based The Alchemist is known for brewing a single beer, Heady Topper, a Double IPA that has reached cult status in the craft beer world. As the brewery’s press material claims, they “focus on brewing one beer perfectly.” Currently, the brewery will occasionally release one-off experimental beers, but only cans Heady Topper. All that could change in the near future, as owner John Kimmich announced recently that The Alchemist will soon can a second beer, Focal Banger, an American IPA “first brewed at the pub back in the day.”
The Alchemist closed its retail location last November because it wasn’t able to handle the traffic and demand for Heady Topper. While looking for a new retail location, the owners announced that they’re also planning on opening a second brewery, which is where they’ll produce Focal Banger, offering it as their second canned beer.
No timeline on the second brewery yet, but The Alchemist promises to release the first batch of Focal Banger on draft in Vermont within the next couple of weeks, and says it will follow up with sporadic “pop up” sales of Focal Banger cans before the full production brewery is up and running.
