Direct Alex Ross Perry’s last film, 2011’s The Color Wheel, was named the best undistributed film of 2011 by both Indiewire and The Village Voice before finally being released theatrically in May 2012. Now he’s back with Listen Up, Philip, which will make its premiere at Sundance on Monday. The film stars Jason Schwartzman as a novelist/narcissist whose book is about to be released, and who deals with the pressure of success by retreating to an isolated country house. Along with Schwartzman, the film stars Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Jess Weixler, Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) and Jonathan Pryce.
This is Perry’s third feature, and the trailer is a simple, compelling appetizer in which the people in Phili’s life praise, confront and warn him in the moments before his novel will be released to the general public. Watch below:
