The man who brought you Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire and 28 Days Later is back, and, strangely, I guess, Danny Boyle is tackling the cop comedy genre. Even more strangely, it’s for television. Babylon stars Brit Marling as an American PR expert who comes to London to change the public image of the police department. It’s not easy, and the criminals (including a sniper) are the least of her worries; the police themselves, a group that includes James Nesbitt among its leaders, seem intent on turning the media against them with incompetence and rank insensitivity. The pilot airs on Channel 4 in the U.K. on Feb. 9, but the six-part series won’t shoot until this spring, with an eye on airing in late 2014.
