Rolling Stone writer Will Hermes has signed on to write a Lou Reed biography. The book will be titled Lou: A New York Life, and will highlight the life of the singer/songwriter and famed member of the Velvet Underground.
Hermes says the book will be a “full, definitive” look into the former Velvet Underground frontman’s life and body of work.
In an interview with the New York Times, Hermes said the book will be focused around New York and the creative influences the city had on Reed. “Reed loved the city deeply, based his adult life here, rooted much of his work here and was a huge figure in our cultural life. I think we have yet to fully measure the loss. He was one of the greatest artists of our generation.”
The book will be published by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. There is currently no release date set. In 2011, Hermes’ last release was a critically lauded book on New York’s mid-’70s music scene called Love Goes to Buildings on Fire.
