In news sure to whet the appetites of the bibliophiles among you, World Book Night U.S. 2014 is soliciting applications for “book givers” through midnight EST on January 10. The event, founded by a consortium of publishing industry persons in 2010, is designed to encourage reading among adults who don’t typically partake. In service of this end, WBN organizers annually select a list of books, which they then distribute to book givers throughout the U.S. The book givers in turn receive 20 copies of a chosen book to gift to members of their communities.
Though the actual event won’t take place until April 23 (the date of Cervantes’ and Shakespeare’s deaths), you only have until January 10 to sign up if you want to serve as a book giver.
Tobias Wolff’s This Boy’s Life and Cheryl Strayed’s Wild reside amongst this year’s stellar
offerings, a full list of which you can find right here.
