Joel McHale, the star of the NBC series Community and host of E!’s The Soup will provide the entertainment for the White House Correspondents Dinner on May 3.
Early this morning, senior White House correspondent Steve Thomma tweeted the announcement:
“We’re thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial. He’s sharp, funny and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media. Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing.”
The list of celebrity guests has yet to be announced, but it would be suspected that a handful of stars will be in attendance. Last year Conan O’Brien had the opportunity to roast President Obama in front of guest stars like Katy Perry, Nicole Kidman, Steven Spielberg, Amy Poehler, Michael J Fox and Sofía Vergara. Other previous entertainment has been provided by Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Jay Leno and Stephen Colbert.
