The market for well-dressed walls has expanded. Maison Martin Margiela recently introduced an exclusive wallpaper collaboration with Belgian-based wallpaper brand Omexco.
The collection includes five design themes with several color offerings for each. Patterns vary from soft to bold, including the soft floral Le Point de Croix reinterpreted from a crossitch canvas and the jagged La Paésine (shown at right) reproduced from a Tuscan limestone spotted and photographed at a flea market.
Those unfamiliar with the French fashion house’s work may recognize its association with Kanye West. He frequents the fashion presentations and wore some of its pieces—including a blanket coat and printed pants—on his Yeezus tour. The house’s elusive founder Martin Margiela left in 2009. Since its inception, he refused to be photographed or give interviews, even labeling the clothing with a plain white rectangle. Other collaborations since his departure include a MMM-white painted Converse sneakers and a collection for H&M.
