This week we didn’t have any seismic cultural events to send Twitter’s servers into hyperdrive; Justin Bieber was able to stay out of the news (that is if you don’t count the devastating penalty for loser of the semi-final Olympic hockey game between Canada and the U.S)
Mega-events are often measured by if Twitter feels compelled to tweet infographics charting how tweeters tweeted in response to a certain cultural happening, like the Super Bowl or Grammys, for instance. On Sunday we were given the tweet stats for the NBA All-Star Game, and then for the rest of the week some info on the Sochi Olympics, but who isn’t sick of those already? I don’t know what it is about this particular Olympiad but I’d be just fine never hearing the word Sochi again for the rest of my life.
We did get a lot of reaction to TV shows like True Detective, House of Cards and Downton Abbey, though, as well as some predictable jokes after Facebook bought WhatsApp for a cool $19 billion (THEY COULD HAVE JUST DOWNLOADED IT FOR FREE!)
But a relatively slow news week (there’s been Kiev, of course, but we’re talking about fodder for stupid Twitter jokes here), isn’t going to slow anybody down. We’ve culled the 35 best tweets from the past quarter-month in the gallery below. As always, the collection is finite and indisputable.
