Wicked Weed Brewing is opening a new barrel house and sour tap room in their home town (and booming beer mecca) of Asheville, N.C. According to a recent press release, the new barrel house will quadruple the number of beers they can age and will feature a tasting room solely focusing on their sour and brett beers.
Wicked Weed already has an impressive sour and barrel aging program and started bottling a few of their most popular beers in early 2014. The new barrel house will be 12,000 square feet with 10-15 taps. Wicked Weed’s signature Freak of Nature double IPA will always be on tap, along with a couple of other seasonal non-sour beers. All other tap space will be devoted to sours. Wicked Weed hopes to open the new barrel house to the public later this summer.
Sour beers are becoming increasingly popular as the American craft beer palate continues to evolve and mature. See some of our favorite sours here.
