Comedian, writer, producer and actor Blake Anderson is a man of many hats, or maybe T-shirts is the more fitting idiom. Probably best known as one of the stars and co-creators of the Comedy Central series Workaholics, Anderson and his wife, Rachael Finley, recently launched an online clothing line. “I’ve always loved collecting crazy vintage shirts and I thought, ‘Hey, why not make some new crazy looking shirts of my own,’” says Anderson. The duo named their clothing line TEENAGE, which references 2013, the year they started it, as well as the teen mindset Anderson says he is eternally stuck in.
The limited edition shirts feature original designs with a heavy pre-apocalyptic and ‘90s-vibe. “The ‘90s had Vanilla Ice and Street Sharks. You’ll be hard pressed to find anything that isn’t influenced by those things.” TEENAGE most certainly is influenced by the decade, featuring nods to Ren and Stimpy and Beavis and Butt-head.
Anderson’s comedic background shows in his approach to choosing designs for TEENAGE. Inspiration for the shirts comes from the hilarious depths of his mind. “It’s a like a deep cosmic hole of psychedelic wonder, a whirlwind of Technicolor and mutant cybernetics … not really, I just make shirts that I think would get kids sent home from school,” he says.
Recently, Anderson and his wife welcomed their first child and with the birth of their daughter, they also added a girls line to TEENAGE.
Just like the shirts, the future is bright for the clothing line. When asked what he and his wife have planned next for TEENAGE, making thongs for iguanas and sweaters for beta fish, along with world domination followed by world destruction were all cited as possible future endeavors.
Fans of Workaholics might be wondering if and when bear coats will be making their way into the line. Unfortunately, Anderson says there are no plans at this time. Alternatively, he’s considering the addition of squid-skin pants. That right there is reason enough to keep up with TEENAGE.
