After plenty of illegitimate imitators and legal D’ohs, an official Duff Beer is finally making its way from the screen to Simpson fans in Australia.
The brew, which has long been the drink of choice for Homer and his pals in the fictional town of Springfield on The Simpsons, will make its debut down under on May 28, according to Chilled Magazine. And for fans in Australia who may want to drink like their favorite TV dad, a pop-up version of Moe’s Tavern will open up from May 23 to May 30 at the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel. The pop-up pub will also be serving some Springfield delicacies like Krusty Burgers, Duffalo Wings and Lard Lad Donuts.
Duff Beer has appeared in one form or another since the 1990s, but 20th Century Fox has taken all brands to court over trademark infringement. Simpsons creator Matt Groening has been hesitant in the past of letting companies sell Duff because it might encourage younger fans of the show to drink. However, an official Duff Beer was released last year with Groening and Fox’s blessing and continues to sell in the Springfield section of Universal Studios in Orlando.
There are no reports of Duff being released anywhere else, so fans across the world will have to cross their fingers and hope. Mmmmm…hope.
