With the final days of the World Cup upon us, nostalgia is already setting in. Like those that came before it, this World Cup has had its share of standout moments. Manchester, England-based web designer Richard Hincks has documented these in his World Cup Moments series.
Each poster illustrates a significant event in World Cup history, mapping movements in a series of minimalist lines and circles. The posters are done in the same layout and use only two colors, white and the color associated with the spotlighted player or team. Relevant information, like date and score, are also conveyed.
Hincks’ criteria for poster-worthy moments are those that mean the most to the fans. “It could be the scrappiest goal ever seen, a clumsy block or save, but it’s one of those moments you’ll never forget, it saved you from relegation, it won you a cup, it qualified you for Europe. To another group of fans it will mean nothing, but to you, that moment is your club.”
From Brazil’s devastating July 8 loss to Suarez’s infamous bite, our favorite World Cup moments from this year are all represented by Hincks.
