Three engineering students have turned a few bad experiences, having their bikes stolen, into a great idea. They’ve created the Yerka Project, a bike frame that they believe can’t be stolen.
Their prototype features a bike and lock two-in-one design where the bike frame also serves as the lock. The only way to steal their bike is to break the frame, a difficult task that will likely serve as a strong deterrent to theft. Another benefit of their design is that riders don’t have to carry a cumbersome lock around with them.
Through a series of moving and removable parts, the Yerka bike easily locks to any pole with a few twists and slides of the bike frame. While the patent is pending and the prototype is still in development, it’s hard not to be excited about this innovative product.
