Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman are sick of all the shit. So they’re taking action, turning garbage into artwork with their “Quotes On Shit.” Each piece of refuse is lovingly inscribed with words that are simultaneously witty and poignant. An old video cassette is a worthless piece of dross. But one that says “I used to matter?” That raises up emotions that mere detritus shouldn’t be capable of.
Which is the whole point, according to Walsh and Goodman. “We all use so much shit. We collect shit, buy shit, steal shit, trade shit and then throw shit away. So what happens with all this old shit? Is there a life after it leaves our hands? Shit winds up in our garbage, on our streets, in our landfills, and in our junk shops. We feel bad for this abandoned and rejected shit so we’re rescuing these objects and breathing new life into them by giving them a voice with words”
Walsh and Goodman are giving away their oddments-turned-artwork to whomever can give the pieces a good home. And if you’ve got unwanted shit of your own that needs a quote, they are accepting donations. Email the team at email@example.com to turn your trash into someone else’s treasure.
