Wireless HiFi manufacturers SONOS have announced SONOS Studio NYC, a six-day music event that will begin Tuesday, Sept. 30. They describe the full event as “a week-long exploration of the intersection of music, art and technology in collaboration with New York City” on the event’s RSVP site.
Headliners for the events will include Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange), rock band Spoon and Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire, each of which will partner with visual and sonic artists to create unique performances and installations. The full list of artists includes names such as Talib Kweli, Mikky Ekko, Flight Facilities, Best Coast and others.
Devonté Hynes and Brooklyn design firm The Principals have collaborated on a special installation. The Principals have designed a “kinetic quilt” that physically expands and contracts in connection to light and sound. Select units are embedded with Sonos speakers that play sounds composed by Hynes specifically for the installation. Hynes and The Principles will debut and discuss the installation on opening day.
Spoon, meanwhile, will partner with with artist JD Walsh, a longtime friend of the band, to premiere a video installation for the band’s new single, “Outlier.”
Richard Reed Parry will discuss the ethos behind his solo album “Music for Heart and Breath” as well as perform a piece from the album.
