Miranda July, whose body of work manifests itself in many forms (including an app!), will turn to the world of fiction for her next endeavor—her first novel, titled The First Bad Man, will hit bookshelves on January 13, 2015.
July has previously written a short story collection, No One Belongs Here More Than You, and her first venture into the novel genre is sure to keep her distinct narrative voice. The First Bad Man follows Cheryl Glickman, a solitary woman who works at a women’s self-defense nonprofit. When her boss’s 20-year-old daughter Clee moves in temporarily, Cheryl is woken up to the reality of the world around her.
In true July fashion, however, her book release isn’t just a normal book release. The author is also launching an online bidding store where readers can buy real objects mentioned in the novel. The store is live now, so readers who just can’t wait until January 13 can head over there now and guess how the objects might manifest themselves in The First Bad Man. All proceeds from the store go to The National Partnership for Women and Families. July is also heading out on a book tour to support the novel.
