Comedy Central has just ordered a pilot of Detroiters, which will be about two Detroit ad men who make low-budget commercials. The show will be executive produced by Jason Sudeikis and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.
The show will star Tim Robinson, an SNL cast member-turned-writer, and Sam Richardson, who performed in Chicago’s Second City along with Robinson and also has a role on Veep. The Detroit natives co-created, co-wrote, and will executive produce the series along with Joe Kelly (How I Met Your Mother) and Zach Kanin (SNL).
The move seems to mirror the model of Broad City, with an SNL alum, Amy Poehler executive producing a show about two New Yorkers trying to make it in the big city, played by Abbi Jacobson and Illana Glazer, who are UCB alums. If Detroiters has even a fraction of the success that Broad City has, Comedy Central could have another hit on their hands.
