In the midst of an ongoing U.S. tour, Dr. Dog have surprised their fans with a new release. This release, though, isn’t a new album by the band, but rather its co-lead vocalist, Scott McMicken. The album, simply called IT, is McMicken’s first proper solo album— and it’s already sold out.
Dr. Dog’s official Facebook page announced the album’s limited release Thursday night, which led to a very quick sell-out on PIAPTK, the album’s distributor. The release of IT was especially limited, with only 200 goldenrod LPs and 100 cassette tapes being sold. Additionally, Dr. Dog’s Facebook noted that IT will not be released digitally—which would seem to invite an open market for piracy and reselling, given the very limited content.
According to PIAPTK, McMicken originally intended to release IT as a cohesive album a while ago, but some of the tracks ended up as bonus tracks on Dr. Dog albums. The limited release is the first time it can be heard as one complete piece.
No plans have been announced for a wider or digital release at this time.
