Still flying high on the critical success of Birdman, a new image from Alejandro González Inñáritu’s film The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, has surfaced, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
The Revenant, adapted from Michael Punke’s 2003 novel, follows Hugh Glass, a 19th century American fur trapper, who is mauled by a grizzly bear and left for dead. After recovering, Glass goes looking for the men who left him behind, played by Tom Hardy, Will Poulter and Domnhall Gleeson, in order to exact revenge.
The film is being shot in Calgary with only natural light by Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity), meaning the crew only has a few hours a day to shoot.
“It’s a fun ride,” said Inñáritu. “It’s a very experimental thing we’re doing here…I’m now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise. We are all into it.”
The Revenant will have a limited release on Dec. 25.
