If you haven’t already noticed, the socks you choose to wear have a significant effect on your comfort. So how many of you pay close attention to your socks? Do you just choose any questionably clean pair and throw it in your bag? If that’s the case, sock experts say you should pay closer attention to the ones you select. Look for socks that stay in place, have elastic arch support or have a reinforced heel and toe. After all, I’m sure we can all attest to the run that was ruined by a pair of bad socks, or the time you went on the five mile hike with bunched up socks causing chafing and blisters the whole way up (and down). Yes, the role our socks play is often neglected, but not anymore.
Whether you’re a avid runner, extreme athlete or a stylish professional walking to work (yes, guys, you will be judged on the quality of your suit—and the small amount of fabric hugging your ankles), there is a sock made for you. There will always be a visual connection to your socks, but there should be function as well.
The quality of material is a huge component to this. There should be a decent amount of ventilation and breathability. A pair of feet have nearly 250,000 sweat glands, producing “moisture” up to 30 gallons a year. So look for socks that wicks moisture, dries quickly and breaths well. Not to mention escaping the potential dealthy smell of some socks. Look for merino wool-this fiber is naturally antimicrobial, which in return repels odors.
That’s why we’ve come up with a list of 15 great socks for all types of activities. We want you to be comfortable and blister free walking around in a bold pair to complement those cool shoes, running a 10K in a dry pair or skiing down the slopes while not loosing the feeling in your toes.
