Weather forecast: arctic blast (read coldest temperatures of winter, ever). Get ready for it, folks—the incessant polar vortices are upon us. Subzero temps will have our bodies stinging from chill, so we’ve come up with a list to try and help you shield your bodies from the bitter cold.
To do so, layering is imperative. For starters, begin with the base layer. Frequently overlooked, and the most important, consider this layer your second skin. Look for long sleeve shirts that are breathable but on the tighter side. In addition, grab a pair of long johns to throw on under your pants. No one will ever know you have them on—it’ll be our secret. Once the base layer is attended to, add a wool sweater, a fleece jacket and even a vest before you throw on your coat. The base layer will insulate you all while still being dapper (and sensible) about the cold.
Yes, rumor has it that the polar vortices are going to bring your “not everyday winter temps,” single digits and the bitter cold. And this calls for serious attention to impenetrable clothing. Look for parkas, jackets with shearling lining, cashmere socks and proper gear to keep your extremities the most warm.
To help you prepare for what’s to come, we’ve come up with a list of 25 items to help you combat the cold. Check it out in the gallery above, and let us know your favorite layering technique in the comment section below.
