Now that the entire East Coast has been covered, our state park series ventures west to Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. Together, these states, only a portion of the Midwest, tally 292 state parks and 74 state forests.
There’s a lot going on here geographically, which makes for some awesome parks: canyons, gorges and the Great Lakes constitute the area’s complex topography. Whether it’s the dunes on the shore of Lake Michigan or the natural bridge in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge, the Midwest’s nature is not to be missed.
Pan through the gallery above and get a taste of the Midwest’s stunning state parks. Next week, there’ll be more to come.
