Original Canadian Series Between Coming to Netflix May 21

Netflix has announced the release date for Between, their newest original programming, this time produced in conjunction with Canadian TV. The show premieres May 21 on Rogers Broadcasting’s City stations and Canadian SVOD service Shomi, as well as on Netflix outside of Canada.

The series stars Jennette McCurdy, known for Nickelodeon’s iCarly. Michael McGowan (Saint Ralph) is the showrunner. The mystery thriller revolves around a town where everyone is dying from a mysterious disease, except for those 21 years old and younger.

McCurdy shared her excitement and trepidation regarding her more adult role with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that it was a relief to play against type but that she doesn’t know how her loved ones will react to seeing her in a new light.

“In some ways, I don’t want them (friends and family) to watch. It’s very raw. And I’m sure, whether or not I want them to watch, they will watch the show,” McCurdy insisted.

However, she feels that her fans are ready for something new.

“I feel Between is really perfect. A lot of the kids that watched iCarly and Sam & Cat are getting older. This fits the bill. Already my more intense fans are very excited and eagerly awaiting the series,” she said.

Unlike other Netflix releases, Between will be released week by week as the episodes premiere on Canadian TV. There will be six hour-long episodes in the first season.
