In our mad ambition to taste 116 India pale ales and name the best of them all, we took quite a few photos. It was part of the process—we needed a photo of every single entry, just in case that particular one ended up advancing to the championship. In the final rankings that we posted today, we were able to use 50 of those photos, but why let all the rest go to waste?
Craft beer, given the right lighting and combination of labels and glassware, can be a beautiful thing to photograph. Scrolling through these, note the incredible degree of variation within a single style—from the pale, straw-yellow of Maine Beer Co.’s Another One to the dark ruby highlights of Starr Hill’s Reviver Red IPA. It was quite the experience to taste them all, to say the very least.
Please note: These are presented in alphabetical order until #69, where it starts with beer #50 in our rankings and counts down to #1.
