Three years after the release of her last album, The Lion The Beast The Beat, Grace Potter is back on the scene. This time, though, the singer will be going it alone without The Nocturnals as she releases her solo debut, Midnight. “Alive Tonight,” the album’s first single, was released today.
The track is a surprising departure from the bluesy-rock sounds of Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, which had drifted in the direction of pop-rock over the years. “Alive Tonight” is more along the lines of an anthemic pop radio hit, which is likely an indication that the rest of Midnight will be similar in style. In a press release, Potter remarked on exploring new sonic territories stating, “Everything about this record has been a wild, wonderful odyssey. I explore new sounds with each album I write and this time around I learned to be patient and really allow each song boil down to it’s most universal form.”
To coincide with the album’s release, Potter will be embarking on a festival tour this summer, highlighted by two consecutive dates at the Grand Point North festival in her hometown of Burlington, VT. Tickets for the festival can be purchased here. beginning April 8.
