In just over two weeks, a new superhero will emerge to fight the forces of evil with hip-hop beats and electronic dance moves (Huh, what?). Billboard broke the news that the Major Lazer cartoon has finally received a premiere date. The electronic music project-inspired cartoon will be airing its first episode on April 16 at midnight on FXX, and is part of their new Animation Domination lineup.
Appropriately titled Major Lazer, the show follows the titular superhero, voiced by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, set in a futuristic, dystopian Jamaica.
“It’s been almost five years in the making,” tells Diplo to Billboard, “but it was worth it to have such a succinct TV show for our music fans and cartoon fans alike.”
Among the guest stars set to appear on the program are: Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Charli XCX, Riff Raff, Andy Samberg, Aziz Ansari and Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons.
Billboard also released a sneak peek at the animated show, which goes in-depth with Major Lazer’s music and the Jamaican culture that heavily influences it. Akinnuoye-Agbaje sums it all up saying, “It’s like being high.” Well said, Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
