Spring break means Jaeger bombs, beer bongs, bikinis, one-night stands, and waking up hungover by a rousing chorus of …”The Circle of Life”?
While the playlist for most spring breakers features the Billboard 100 hits and almost anything with the tag “ft. Lil Wayne,” the set-list at the Holiday Inn Resort on Panama City Beach blasts The Lion King’s, “Circle of Life,” every morning at 11 am. Conveniently, that’s also the checkout time.
The hotel’s marketing director, Philip Corvin, told Florida’s WJHG news, that the hotel began playing “Circle of Life” in 2012, and “It was a song that worked real well as a wake-up call because of the loud beat in it, and it works real well because of the message of the song. It fits with the kids and the mood and what they’re going through right now.” Like how quickly to bong a pitcher?
You’d assume this would deter partiers from guzzling their Keystone Light at the hotel, but, in actuality, this hotel is one of the most spring break-friendly in the area. While the alarm—of sorts—alerts the passed out masses that it’s time to checkout, it simultaneously signals the masses—like a call of prayer—to crack the day’s first beer. Quite literally, when the song airs, guests gather on their balconies, lift their beverages, and cheers to another day of drinking.
Because of its success, it’s unlikely the hotel will stop playing the tune anytime soon. That is, at least not until they switch to the Frozen soundtrack.
