Hangout Festival is one of the few festivals in the country where you can watch music directly on the sand; you can take a dip in the ocean to the sounds of Outkast or Spoon. Lifeguards finish their shifts and put on their favorite band tees, and the army of girls with flower crowns and breezy kimonos swarm Gulf Shores, Alabama for the weekend. The style here is different from other festivals because we have to work bathing suits into our wardrobes and shoes for walking far distances in sand.
We thought the era of the flower crown was over, but this year at Hangout there was a station devoted entirely to making your very own headpiece. We also saw a lot of fashionable folks ditching most of their clothing altogether and just opting to hang out in a bikini all weekend (we can’t blame them, it was hot outside). Some bikinis in particular look like they could’ve been worn like actual clothing—check out our suggestions for how to pull that look off here.
