Alicia Vikander will be starring in The Circle opposite Tom Hanks, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress broke out this year with the artificial intelligence thriller Ex Machina from Alex Garland.
The Circle is based on the 2013 novel from Dave Eggers about a young college graduate Mae Holland, played by Vikander, who is hired by the world’s most powerful tech company, the Circle, and becomes involved with the co-founder, played by Hanks. We’re assuming this isn’t a 50 Shades spin-off, with that set-up.
The film will be directed by James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now), who is producing alongside Hanks’ Playtone production company. The Circle would mark the second Eggers project that Hanks has adapted to film, after A Hologram for the King.
Vikander is set to become a household name soon, starring in six movies to be released over the next nine months, including Guy Richie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, starring Eddie Redmayne, Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans, the chef film Adam Jones, starring Bradley Cooper, as well as Testament of Youth and Tulip Fever. Now that’s one hell of a schedule for a talented young actress.
