2015 is a big year for Star Wars fans, with the first new movie in 10 years hitting the big screen this December. There are some notable changes this time around, of course; the property has passed from LucasFilm, a studio famous for filling movies with obnoxious cartoon characters, to Disney, a studio famous for filling movies with obnoxious cartoon characters. Series creator George Lucas, much maligned for ruining fan-favorite movies with shitty remakes, is passing the directorial reins over to J.J. Abrams, a director much maligned for ruining fan-favorite movies with shitty remakes. Things are different this time.
While it’s yet to be seen if lens flares and time travel serve the series better than midichlorians and Jar Jar Binks, one thing that we can all count on is that the new film will spark a new wave of Star Wars videogames. With the new Battlefront and Disney Infinity 3.0 already on the horizon, the videogame branch of the Star Wars expanded universe tree is about to get a lot bigger. At the same time, the Star Wars canon has grown smaller, as the “expanded universe,” developed over decades in comics, novels and games, is no longer part of the same “official” Star Wars timeline as the films. So there’s a lot of Star Wars business you shouldn’t expect to see in upcoming games. Despite the literal entire universe of unique and interesting characters that populate the galaxy far, far away, here are a few characters you shouldn’t expect to grace your PC screen or console any time soon.
