Coming this September from the director of Prisoners is a new thriller starring Emily Blunt as an FBI agent taking part in an investigation concerning the war on drugs along the Mexican border. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro co-star as a task force official and a mercenary, respectively. Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice also makes an appearance as a DEA agent.
In the trailer, the title of the film is explained, that “sicario” in Mexico means “hitman.” Whether or not the sicario is one of the shady characters seen on screen is unclear. Who exactly the bad guy even is that they’re searching for is not answered either. One thing that is clear from this trailer is that aside from Blunt’s character, there are no clean-cut good guys, as Blunt seems to be going through a tough time on this mission cleaning off blood in the shower and getting choked by a dark figure.
Sicario was screened at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival last month, where it competed for the top prize, the Palme d’Or.
Sicario will be released in theaters Sept. 18.
