A rich, beautiful family wants to adopt a child. The crazy, kind-of-sexy birth mother falls for the father. She decides to eliminate his wife, terrorizing the family and turning their lives into a living hell. Sound familiar?
Hopefully it does, because it’s the plot for Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig’s new Lifetime movie, A Deadly Adoption, which airs Saturday. It’s meant to be a parody of the movies Lifetime typically shows, but Ferrell and Wiig are delivering the goods with perfectly straight faces. Former Saturday Night Live writer Andrew Steele penned the script, and with the help of director Rachel Lee Goldenberg, they made the movie totally in secret.
The new extended trailer is so heavy handed and obscenely melodramatic that it’s honestly difficult to tell whether Ferrell and Wiig are kidding. Tune in to Lifetime on June 20 at 8 p.m. to see if A Deadly Adoption a successful act in satire or the most dismal of failures.
